About the Producer
Louis Métaireau Grand Mouton is located in the heart of the Loire Valley’s Muscadet appellation, nestled between the Sèvre and Maine rivers. Founded in the 1980s by Louis Métireau and his daughter Marie-Luce, the domaine boasts well-placed vineyards that contribute to its reputation. Today, Marie-Luce and her husband, Jean-François Guilbaud, manage the 23-hectare estate. The name "Mouton" derives from the French word for a small hill, Motte, rather than sheep. The Sèvre et Maine area is renowned within Muscadet, and since 1988, the couple has crafted some of the finest examples from this region. Their commitment to quality is evident in their sustainable growing methods, hand harvesting of grapes, and separate vinification of each plot. With some vines dating back to 1937, their wines exhibit impressive concentration and density, showcasing the true potential of the terroir.
