About the Producer
Domaine Montrose is the culmination of over 300 years of winemaking tradition from the Coste family, dedicated to preserving their heritage for future generations. Family Terroir Located in the Languedoc region of southern France, just a few kilometers from Pézenas and the Mediterranean, the estate spans 80 hectares of vines. It lies in the Côtes de Thongue appellation, a unique area comprising about fifty producers who have chosen not to seek official AOC certification, allowing them the freedom to craft personal wines. The vines thrive on typical soils of the region, characterized by Villafranchiens terraces with small pebbles and clay-limestone. Notably, some vines are planted on the slopes of two volcanoes, Montrose and Montredon, imparting distinctive flavors to the wines. Centuries-Old History The name "Montrose" first appeared on the French Cassini maps drawn up after 1756, although its origins trace back to 1696. Evidence of this heritage can be found in underground cellars dating back to the 16th century. The Three Lizards On July 1, 1701, Joseph Alazard received a family crest featuring Three Lizards. Today, his descendants, Bernard and his son Olivier Coste, manage Domaine Montrose. As a tribute to their ancestor, the Three Lizards emblem is featured on all Montrose bottles, symbolizing their enduring legacy.
