The Macallan Classic Cut is a limited-edition, annual series of single malt whiskies bottled at a high strength to highlight its unique character and flavour notes, which vary each year. It is crafted using a combination of sherry-seasoned European oak and American oak casks, along with ex-bourbon casks. Tasting notes typically include a rich nose of citrus, vanilla, and oak, followed by a palate featuring fruit, spice, and caramel, and a finish that is often sweet and creamy. Limited annual series: Each year's release has its own distinct character, focusing on peak flavour rather than age. Cask combination: Matured in sherry-seasoned European oak and American oak, and ex-bourbon casks. High proof: Bottled at a high alcohol by volume (ABV), with the specific percentage varying by year, to showcase its dynamic flavours. For example, the 2024 edition is 52.4% ABV. Transformative with water: Adding a small amount of water can open up new aromas and flavors, allowing the sensory profile to evolve.

The Macallan was among the first distillers in Scotland to receive a legal license, establishing itself as one of the world’s premier single malt whiskies. Its creation is influenced by the natural raw materials from Spain, North America, and Scotland, all harmoniously blended with traditional methods and craftsmanship. Founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher, The Macallan distillery is rooted in history. The original name of the area, “Maghellan,” derives from the Gaelic word “magh,” meaning fertile ground, and “Ellan,” referring to the monk St. Fillan, who had a close connection to the church that stood on The Macallan Estate until 1400. For centuries, local farmers had been producing whisky from their surplus barley during the quieter winter months.
