About the Producer

Domaine Mikulski, located in the Meursault sub-appellation of the Burgundy wine region of France, is one of the region's leading wineries and is particularly renowned for its fine white wines. Founded by winemaker Francois Mikulski, Francois was encouraged and supported by his wife Marie Pierre Mikulski in 1991 when he was 28 years old to create his own winery. Marie comes from a local wine family and has a lot of experience in the wine trade. The couple farm and manage vineyards that are leased, partly from their own relatives and partly from neighbourhood vineyards. Although rented, as operators and managers, François has full access and decision-making power over all aspects of the land, planting and winemaking. It is possible to practice one's philosophy, permeate one's preferences and present one's style without any constraints. Thanks to the enthusiasm, diligence and skill of the Mikuskis, the reputation of the estate grew as the wines became known for their exquisite complexity and terroir typicality. The estate has grown from its initial size of 5½ hectares to almost 8 hectares. The vineyards range from basic Burgundy, to village, to first growths. More than twenty wines are produced. François' quest for perfection in the art of winemaking is also reflected in the design of his unique wine labels. From 1992, the first year of bottling at Château Mikulski, until 2004, the label used a work entitled "Cote Sauvage" by the famous artist Jean-Paul Riopelle. Jean-Paul had painted the 1978 label for Mouton. Recently, François launched a new label. The new label consists of a few simple lines of chalk-like lettering. It is inspired by the old way of recording the chalk used in the making of Burgundy wines. In Burgundy, where the spirit of the terroir is so strong, there is a belief that the land gives the wine everything it has to offer. In fact, the people, together with the land and climate, as well as history, culture and philosophy, make up Burgundy's unique terroir. Château Mikuski is an excellent example of this.
