About the Producer
Domaine Lucien Crochet is a distinguished winery located in the renowned Sancerre region of France, celebrated for its exceptional Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir wines. The estate has deep roots in winemaking, with family history dating back several generations. Both of Lucien Crochet's grandfathers were winegrowers, and in the early 1950s, Lucien Picard pioneered the bottling of Sancerre wines for sale in Paris, setting a precedent for the region. In 1983, Lucien Crochet returned to the family estate after studying oenology in Dijon and gaining valuable experience at Domaine Dujac in Burgundy. He has since focused on vinifying 7 to 8 cuvées each vintage, bringing innovation and a personal touch to the traditional practices of winemaking. Today, he and his wife, Laurence, who also hails from a winemaking family, manage the estate, continuing the legacy while incorporating their unique vision. The vineyard spans 35 hectares, with 26 hectares dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc and 9 hectares to Pinot Noir, including rosé. The diverse terroir of the estate, characterized by its calcareous clay soils and varied slopes, allows for optimal grape ripening. This careful attention to the land and its conditions results in wines that reflect the essence of Sancerre. Among their celebrated offerings, the Sancerre Blanc stands out, known for its crisp acidity, vibrant citrus notes, and mineral undertones. This wine beautifully showcases the region's signature Sauvignon Blanc characteristics. The estate's commitment to quality, tradition, and innovation makes Domaine Lucien Crochet a prominent name in the Sancerre wine landscape, appealing to both connoisseurs and casual wine enthusiasts alike.
