Tasting notes

Reviewed by: Lisa Perrotti-Brown
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Quella is scented of blackberry preserves, fruitcake and crushed rocks with hints of cigar box, dried Provence herbs and Indian spices. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm backbone of grainy tannins and great freshness lifting the black fruit and earth layers, finishing on a lingering mineral note.

The 2014 Quella, which comes from a steep nine-acre vineyard in the eastern Vaca Mountain foothills, has an even deeper color than the St. Eden for the 2014 vintage. Beautiful charcoal, vanilla and cassis notes, some lead pencil shavings, supple tannin, and again, the plump, succulent fruit of this vintage are all displayed abundantly and flamboyantly. Drink it over the next 20-25 years.
