Description

About the Producer

Domaine G.Roumier was developed and expanded by the Georges Roumier family. In 1924, Georges Lumi settled in Chambolle Musigny. The winery originally belonged to his wife's family and was later run by Georges Lumi. At that time, most of the wines of Lumi Winery were sold to local wine merchants. In 1945, Georges Lumi started bottling at the winery. Since then, wines labeled "George Lumi" have risen to fame. Subsequently, he continued to expand his winery. In 1953, his son Jean-Marie Roumier took charge of the estate. Jean-Marie also followed in the footsteps of her father, expanding the vineyard. He successively acquired Corton Charlemagne and Musigny. In 1982, Jean-Marie's son, Christophe, managed the winery with him. Today, Chateau Lumi’s vineyard covers an area of 11.8 hectares, distributed in 9 different production areas, including 0.276 hectares of Charmes-Chambertin and 0.5436 hectares of Lucha-Chambertin (Ruchottes-Chambertin). The winemaking goal of Lumi Winery is to produce high-quality wines that can reflect the characteristics of the local terroir under the premise of respecting the vintage conditions. This goal requires a meticulous spirit in the cultivation of the grapes and the winemaking process and the aging process. Lumi Winery also advocates the method of natural brewing and opposes human interference. No chemical fertilizers and herbicides are used when planting grapes. The mature grapes are harvested manually. After the grapes are harvested, they are carefully sorted and destemmed. The grape juice is fermented in wooden barrels. Temperature control is particularly important during fermentation and capping, as this will determine the character of the wine, followed by malolactic fermentation, which softens the tannins. The must needs to ferment in wooden barrels for 18 to 23 days. After fermentation, the wine will age in oak barrels for 15 to 18 months. During the maturation stage, the impurities in the wine will slowly sink, and the lees will concentrate at the bottom of the barrel. The lees play a huge role in protecting the wine from oxidation. The winery neither clarifies nor filters the wines before bottling, out of respect for natural wines. The proportion of new oak barrels used by Lumi Winery will vary according to different vineyards. In general, Premier Cru wines are matured in 25% to 40% new oak barrels, while Grand Cru wines are matured in 40% to 50% new oak barrels. However, the wines made from grapes from the Chambord Musigny vineyard are delicious and elegant. Depending on the vintage, Chambord Musigni is generally aged in 15% to 25% new oak barrels. In this way, the aroma of the wine can be developed without the wine lacking a sense of delicacy due to too much oak. Today, Château Lumi is still one of the most reputable wineries in Burgundy.
